Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria reckons that emerging pacer Arshdeep Singh could be a great option for India in the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup this year. Known for his death overs spells and the ability to bowl well-disguised yorkers, Arshdeep who was impressive in the last two editions of the IPL finally found a place in the Indian T20I squad during the first game against England earlier this month.

Speaking on Arshdeep’s potential to be the next big thing in Indian fast bowling, Kaneria said that the left-arm speedster can certainly be a valuable asset for India in both the major tournaments this year as the youngster bowls sensibly and knows how to take wickets. At the same time, the veteran spinner also added that Arshdeep Singh can create a good impression on Dubai wickets during the Asia Cup.

Arshdeep Singh can be successful being a left-arm pacer: Danish Kaneria

“Mark my words. Arshdeep will play the third ODI and make an impact too. Arshdeep has the art, and he uses his mind while bowling. He bowls sensibly and knows how to take wickets. He can be a fantastic option for the Indian team for T20 World Cup and maybe for Asia Cup as well. Asia Cup will be held in Dubai and he can be successful being a left-arm pacer,” said Kaneria while speaking on his YouTube channel.

Arshdeep Singh created a good first impression on his T20I debut against England with figures of 2/18 from his 3.3 overs at an economy of 5.1 including a maiden. With less than three months to go for the T20 World Cup down under, the Indian think tank would now be eager to give Singh a few more chances going forward.

It would be interesting to see whether the left-arm pacer gets to feature in the playing XI for the upcoming five T20Is starting Friday, July 29 as the final auditions for the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup get underway

The uncertainty around the upcoming Asia Cup tournament was cleared on Thursday when the BCCI president Sourav Ganguly confirmed that the UAE will host the T20 tournament after original hosts Sri Lanka had to forfeit their plans due to the ongoing crisis in the island nation. Meanwhile, Star Sports India’s official Twitter handle has released an anthem (promo) for the national team participating in the tournament scheduled to commence on August 27.

The defending champions India, are the most successful side in the tournament’s history, with seven titles to their name, while Sri Lanka with five wins in the prestigious tournament are the second-most successful team. In the 2022 edition, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh will be the five full-member teams, and a qualifier will be played ahead of the tournament to decide the final spot between Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuwait, and the UAE.

The Indian team will enter its first major tournament since Rohit Sharma took over the reins from Virat Kohli. The defending champions are one of the heavy favourites for the tournament but will face stiff competition from fierce rivals Pakistan, who have flourished under the leadership of Babar Azam. The tournament’s official broadcasters, Star Sports India’s Twitter handle posted a montage of the Indian team’s success in the competition with an anthem for the Men in Blues.

“The battle for Asian supremacy is . Get set to #BelieveInBlue as

Asia Cup has been shifted from Sri Lanka to UAE amidst unrest in the island nation

BCCI president Sourav Ganguly cleared the air around the 2022 Asia Cup by confirming that the tournament has been moved to the UAE after the Sri Lankan board has informed that they won’t be able to host the tournament amidst political and financial turmoil and widespread protests in the country.

Notably, the ICC announced a change in the structure of the tournament and stated that tournaments from 2016 onwards, which originally featured only ODI matches until then, will see a format change every two years. The 2016 Asia Cup was a T20 event and was won by India and was followed by a 50-over edition in 2018, which was also clinched by the Men in Blue.

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly on Thursday confirmed that the Asia Cup has been shifted to UAE, from Sri Lanka, amidst the political and economic unrest in the island nation. The Asian Cricket Council and the concerned board had been in talks for quite some time regarding the matter. Ganguly confirmed the developments after the board’s Apex Council meeting.

Sri Lanka was set to host the mega event, but Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) informed the ACC about the conditions in the country and pulled out as the hosts. Due to the same reason, SLC also postponed their Lanka Premier League (LPL). As for the Asia Cup (T20Is), it is now slated to be held in the UAE from August 27 to September 11.

“Asia Cup will be in UAE, as it is the only place where there won’t be rains,” Ganguly informed the media according to NDTV after the Board’s Apex Council meeting in Mumbai.

A handful of decisions taken on India’s domestic cricket schedule

Quite a few decisions were taken during the Apex Council meeting. As per the Council’s discussion of several options for the 2022–23 season, Ganguly announced that a full domestic season will take place in 2022–23. The Duleep Trophy, which will likely begin on September 8, is being considered as a possible way for the Board to kick off the senior men’s season. The Irani Cup, which will take place from October 1–5, is also being considered.

The Duleep Trophy was previously a knockout tournament between five zones, but later it was reduced to a round-robin competition between three teams, with the top two teams moving on to the final. The current Ranji Trophy winners compete against the Rest of India’s team in the Irani Cup.

Additionally considered were the possibilities for hosting the Ranji Trophy, the Vijay Hazare Trophy, and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The Vijay Hazare Trophy (ODI) is anticipated to begin play on November 12, while the Mushtaq Ali Trophy (T20) may begin on October 11.  The Ranji Trophy is likely to commence on December 13 with the knockouts from February 1.

One of the meeting’s suggested formats calls for the Ranji Trophy to be divided into four groups of Eight Elite teams and one group of Six Plate teams. As in previous Group stages, each team would thus get to play a minimum of seven games. The Ranji Trophy makes the competition more fierce because a team must play a minimum of 10 games to win. According to Ganguly, the Board will start offering a women’s U16 division in the forthcoming season.

Reports: Sri Lanka withdraws from hosting Asia Cup 2022 amid national crisis https://www.crictracker.com/reports-sri-lanka-withdraws-from-hosting-asia-cup-2022-amid-national-crisis/ Thu, 21 Jul 2022 06:51:43 +0000 https://www.crictracker.com/?p=673059 Sri Lanka Flag

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has reportedly confirmed that it is not in a position to host the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 due to the ongoing political and economic crisis in the country. SLC expressed its inability to the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) regarding hosting the big event, scheduled to be played from August 27 to September 11.

Sri Lanka is going through its worst-ever economic crisis, and the last few months have witnessed countless protests against the ruling government by the masses of the country. Even eminent cricketers like Sanath Jayasuriya, Kumar Sangakkara, and Mahela Jayawardene have come forward and raised their voices on the worrisome situation in the island nation.

Sri Lanka likely to consult UAE

“As per Sri Lankan media, the SLC informed the ACC about its decision, maintaining that it is ‘not in a position’ to organize the Asia Cup cricket tournament in the country due to the current political and economic situation of the country,” read a report as quoted by The Nation.

The report further adds, “A decision to hold the event in the United Arab Emirates hasn’t been finalised yet. The venue could, however, be any Asian country, including India. Sri Lanka will reportedly consult the UAE Cricket Board, requesting to provide a venue where it can host the event”.

The decision comes just days after the third edition of the highly-anticipated Lanka Premier League (LPL) was forced to be postponed due to the ongoing crisis in Sri Lanka. It was scheduled to take place from August 21.

With Sri Lanka pulling out at the last minute, it remains to be seen which venue will be finalised by the ACC to organise the tournament. Meanwhile, this year’s Asia Cup will be played in the T20 format as a dress rehearsal for the T20 World Cup down under in October-November. This will be the second time after 2016 that the tournament will be played in a 20-over format.

India’s best XI to face Pakistan in Asia Cup T20 2022 https://www.crictracker.com/indias-best-xi-to-face-pakistan-in-asia-cup-t20-2022/ Wed, 20 Jul 2022 05:15:23 +0000 https://www.crictracker.com/?p=672361 Team India in second ODI against England

The political undertone always makes an India-Pakistan clash spicy, and fans often dial it up to a eleven in every possible aspect. The social media banters turn into verbal wars, media houses end up inviting the who’s who of the cricketing world to reminisce their experiences, and every player taking the field knows that defeat will not be taken on the chin by fans on both sides.

Both these giants of subcontinent cricket will lock horns in the Asia Cup 2022 in under a couple of months and there are no reasons suggesting a depreciation in this brouhaha. India will be keen to field their best eleven men for this contest, as the wounds of their 10-wicket defeat in the ICC T20 World Cup last year remain fresh.

Here’s a look at the predicted Indian XI for this contest, which might feature regularly in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup as well.

1. Rohit Sharma (Captain)

Rohit Sharma v England.

Rohit Sharma has a mixed history with Pakistan in these big tournaments. He has experienced success, and some failures too. There’s often a criticism on his shoulders that he doesn’t perform in big games, forgetting the fact that his first major impact knock in international cricket came against the Pakistanis, in the 2007 T20 World Cup final, where he blasted a 16-ball 30.

The way Indian batters approached England in the recently concluded 3-match T20I series, we can sense the intent clearly – they are going all-out from the get-go. Rohit has been successful in doing so on multiple occasions during his career, but he is still better known as a slow-starter who picks up halfway through.

He would be hoping to tackle the new ball a little better this time, and an early dismissal from his side could put the team under pressure. However, you would want to bank on this individual to make a big score in a contest like this.

2. KL Rahul

KL Rahul

This position will be under severe scrutiny as KL Rahul‘s T20 game has not been idolized by many, despite the Karnataka batter making so many runs in the IPL over the last five seasons. However, the undeniable ability of this talented cricketer could fetch him a place.

Rahul’s addition solidifies the top order and it’ll be interesting to see if he comes out as a more free-flowing batter. Another option he offers is stability in case of a collapse. He is one of India’s most experienced cricketers right now, and one of the few with multiple centuries in all formats.

It will still be a gamble as he might take up the place of a cricketer who has been in great form lately (could be Rishabh Pant or Dinesh Karthik, ideally the latter). He will not be oblivious to the fact that his playing-eleven position in this format is far from sealed for the big tournament coming up.

3. Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli

33 runs in the ODIs against England across two innings, not a great outing in T20Is against South Africa shortly before this, it does seem like Virat Kohli is striking the ball well, but the scores aren’t coming. The standards he set are preying on him now, his own brilliance is his big enemy.

Kohli might not be in the best of form, but it’ll take a miraculous and audacious call from the management and selectors to drop him for the T20 World Cup in Australia. Not to forget, he has done exceedingly well in Australia. He has played 11 T20Is in Australia, and scored 451 runs at an average of 64.42, striking at nearly 145.

His numbers in the UAE aren’t very promising, with just 68 runs in 5 knocks at a feeble strike-rate of 100, which includes a half-century (against Pakistan). This will be Kohli’s big chance to reassure fans that he still has it in him.

4. Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav

It would not be an overstatement to suggest that this Indian team relies very heavily on Suryakumar Yadav in their upcoming ventures. India’s very own Mr. 360, the 31-year-old blends audacious stroke play with glamour, and the consistency he has shown lately are simply outstanding.

Suryakumar Yadav recently scored his first century in the shortest format against England, and that knock included some of the most ridiculous shots possible. As it stands, he has 537 runs in T20Is at a whopping strike rate of 177.23, which isn’t an exaggerated stat as it is not from his overall T20 career strike-rate (144.11).

Pakistan will be wary of the threat he poses, and will try to attack him with their best strategy and personnel. Allowing him to settle would not end up well for them.

5. Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant

He is perhaps the most unpredictable cricketer in the world, who commands a fixed place across all formats. Rishabh Pant provides the assurance that the moment he gets going, he delivers a mind-boggling contribution. This man doesn’t operate in the grey, it’s either black or white.

In the T20Is against England, Pant was asked to open the innings alongside Rohit. It did not prove to be a fruitful experiment, but this ploy is still not totally out of the picture. Giving him a chance to open means an in-form batter gets to play a higher number of deliveries, which isn’t bad.

Pant recently made scored his first century in limited overs cricket for India against England in a do-or-die ODI, further backing his agenda to remain in the XI no matter what.

6. Hardik Pandya

Hardik Pandya in third ODI against England.

Hardik Pandya has re-emerged in the scene after a couple of below-par years in international cricket, riddled by poor form and injuries. The beginning of his comeback started with Gujarat Titans in the IPL, and since then, he has scored 215 runs in 9 innings with the bat for India, and 6 wickets in 5 innings with the ball.

The all-rounder seems to be in the form of his life, also contributing invaluably in ODIs with bat and ball. Pandya has found his rhythm and is a pivotal member of this team, capable of taking it to another level. The Pakistani batting department has looked pretty solid lately and his smart bowling antics could make a difference.

The importance of this cricketer is growing significantly in this team, and it’ll be interesting to see how he can live up to the expectations.

7. Ravindra Jadeja

Ravindra Jadeja

The combination of Ravindra Jadeja and Hardik Pandya in the XI allows the side extra depth in the bowling department, which could be very crucial in countries like Australia. The duo performed exceedingly well in the ODI series against England, and there’s a good chance he will be in the XI ahead of Axar Patel or Dinesh Karthik.

Pakistani batters are splendid against finger spin, so it will be interesting to see if Jadeja can make a difference. However, where he truly adds value to the side is with the bat in the lower order. The fact that Jadeja and Pandya are the fifth and sixth bowling options will give immense confidence to the frontline bowlers as well.

Much like some other individuals in this team, his place isn’t assured in the XI for the ICC T20 World Cup. If he can churn a few big performances in the Asia Cup, he could be an invaluable addition in Australia as well.

8. Harshal Patel

Harshal Patel

One of the most improved cricketers in India over the last couple of seasons, Harshal Patel has proven time and again that he can be a very smart operator in this format. Having won the Purple Cap in IPL 2021, Patel made an instant impression after making his international debut in November last year, shortly after the T20 World Cup.

He has featured in 17 T20Is since then and picked up 23 wickets at an economy of 8.58, which is pretty decent for a bowler taking responsibility of the death overs. He produced some pretty stellar performances in recent times, including a terrific 4/25 against South Africa in Vizag.

India could go with an all-out pace bowling attack in Australia, and Patel could be spearheading the death bowling department in the company of Bumrah.

9. Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Bhuvneshwar Kumar seemed to be out of contention for the upcoming T20 World Cup, but after a terrific IPL with the Sunrisers Hyderabad, the fast bowler has chipped in with outstanding performances. He picked up 6 wickets at an economy of just 6.07 in the T20I series against South Africa and scalped another six wickets in the trip to Ireland and England.

He has been very economical in the power play overs, bringing back the good old days of his masterful swing bowling. He has been providing crucial breakthroughs as well in this phase and is proving to be the best new ball bowler in the world.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar made his debut against Pakistan in 2012 and in these 10 years, he has encountered plenty of ups and downs. His form was under severe scrutiny for a good couple of years but it seems like he is back in the running to take his place on the team.

10. Yuzvendra Chahal

Yuzvendra Chahal picked up the Purple Cap in IPL 2022 for the Rajasthan Royals and has looked re-energized since earning his place back in the team. The leg-spinner is constantly among the wickets and has added more variations to his arsenal, making him more lethal.

Chahal did not make it to the T20 World Cup squad last time, which came in as a big surprise but the stats weren’t backing him well too. That isn’t the case this time, and regardless of what he does in this fixture against Pakistan or in the Asia Cup, he will make it to the Australia flight.

Chahal’s lack of pace can be a lot more helpful in countries like UAE and Australia where boundaries are pretty big. He picked up 4 wickets against England in the T20Is and was brilliant in the ODI series as well, picking 7 wickets in 3 matches.

11. Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah celebrating Liam Livingstone's wicket

Jasprit Bumrah had not played enough cricket leading into the last T20 World Cup and the Indian side will not want to repeat that mistake. Although he did pick up 7 wickets in 5 matches, he wasn’t up to the mark in the two big games against Pakistan and New Zealand.

However, Bumrah has been in staggering form lately and also got to captain the national side for the first time in the Test match against England. He has an intricate history against Pakistan, with memories of that infamous no-ball in the 2017 Champions Trophy final flashing ahead of all others.

He had an opportunity to settle the score in the World Cup last year, but it didn’t turn out that way. He will be desperate to chip in with a big performance in the coming opportunities as he will possibly lock horns against them twice.

Reports: Asia Cup 2022 likely to be shifted to UAE amid Sri Lanka crisis https://www.crictracker.com/reports-asia-cup-2022-likely-to-be-shifted-to-uae-amid-sri-lanka-crisis/ Sat, 16 Jul 2022 17:19:41 +0000 https://www.crictracker.com/?p=671337 Sri Lanka Flag

The 2022 Asia Cup may need to be shifted out of Sri Lanka in the aftermath of the political unrest in the Island nation. While Sri Lanka Cricket have remained confident of their ability to stage the six-team event despite the severe turbulence on both political and economic fronts, the rapid escalation of unrest in the country, which has seen its President fleeing recently and widespread protests amongst other catastrophes, seems to have forced the stakeholders to look at other options, with the United Arab Emirates emerging as one of the frontrunners to host the event.

Recent reports suggest that the member boards of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) have already started considering the alternative route as discussions are underway with the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) in the UAE. The six-team event is slated to be played from August 27 to September 11, with Hong Kong, Kuwait, Singapore and UAE set to play the Qualifier before the main event, which will involve Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka and the Qualifier topper.

“In such a scenario, it is being felt that hosting the championship is not appropriate,” a member of the ACC told Cricbuzz on Saturday (July 16).

It is pertinent to note that Sri Lanka successfully hosted Australia in an extensive all-format tour while it is currently hosting Pakistan for two Tests. Meanwhile, even as the UAE is understandably being looked at as a potential host, battling the heat in the desert will remain one of the biggest challenges for the organisers given the timing of the tournament.

Amidst the recent developments, Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) recent take remains a glimmer of hope for the SLC. “Our first preference is to support Sri Lanka and play the Asia Cup there. If this tournament does not take place in Sri Lanka, it will be a huge cricketing and financial loss for them. Australia’s recent tour of Sri Lanka went off without any problems,” Faisal Hasnain, PCB CEO, said.

“Similarly, there have been no issues with the ongoing Pakistan tour of Sri Lanka as we are constantly in touch with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and our embassy in the country. Our discussions with the ACC representatives have suggested that the tournament is on track at the moment as they are monitoring the situation very carefully and we will support their decision,” he added.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has exuded confidence in hosting the Asia Cup 2022 which is scheduled to be played from August 27 to September 11 despite the ongoing political and economic crisis in the country. The last few months witnessed the Sri Lankan public expressing their concern by the way of protests due to political unrest in the country as a result of inflation.

Sri Lanka had successfully hosted Australia in an all-format bilateral series that was played for a span of 35 days and will be hosting Pakistan in a two-match Test series starting Saturday, July 16. Earlier, there were a lot of rumors stating that Sri Lanka would be losing the hosting rights of this year’s Asia Cup due to tensions in the island nation.

We have just hosted the Australian tour, Pakistan is in the country: SLC Secretary

“As far as we are concerned, we are still very confident of hosting the tournament in Sri Lanka,” said  Mohan de Silva, secretary at Sri Lanka Cricket while speaking to  ESPNcricinfo.

“We have just hosted the Australian tour with two Tests in Galle, and Pakistan are in the country as well,” he added.

At the same time, it has also been learned that a final decision on whether Sri Lanka would be retained as the hosts for the 15th edition of the Asia Cup will be taken by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) on Friday, July 15.

The upcoming edition of the Asia Cup will be played between six teams. Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka are the five teams in the main draw. The sixth team will be determined by who wins the Qualifiers that will be played from August 20 to 26.  Hong Kong, Kuwait, Singapore, and the UAE are the participants in the Qualifiers.

The 2022 edition of the Asia Cup will be played in the T20 format as a dress rehearsal for the T20 World Cup that is scheduled to be played Down Under in October-November. India are the defending champions.

Sri Lanka has been under an economic and political crisis for a long time now, and the situations and scenarios keep worsening in the country. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) had showcased its readiness to host the event, but with the political unrest in the country taking a new turn frequently, the Asian Cricket Council has put Bangladesh on standby to host the Asia Cup which is set to begin in August.

The ACC will be arriving at a final decision later this month and a clearer picture will be in front of everyone. SLC recently hosted the Australian Men’s team for a multi-format series that included three T20Is, five ODIs, and two Tests and also hosted the Indian Women’s team for a white-ball series comprising three T20Is and as many ODIs.

As per a report by the Indian express, the ACC does not want to take any risk in this matter and looks to keep things safe in case the situation in Sri Lanka worsens. The leaders of the country recently expressed their willingness to quit after Sri Lankan residents broke into the President’s home and also set the Prime Minister’s house on fire.

In fact, when protesters scaled the Galle Fort during the last test match between Sri Lanka and Australia to denounce President Gotabaya Rajapaksa for mismanaging the nation’s economy and call for his resignation, their rage nearly reached the playing field.

Sixth spot in the Asia Cup group vacant

A total of six countries will participate in the Asia Cup this year, with five spots already being taken by Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh. UAE, Kuwait, Singapore, and Hong Kong will fight for the final place at the mega event. The four countries will participate in a qualifier competition in order to make their way to the final six. The Asia Cup will be a major boost for those countries who will go on to play the T20 World Cup in Australia this year.

While all eyes will be on the blockbuster T20 World Cup 2022 clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan at the iconic MCG on October 23, this rivalry could be renewed on August 28 as multiple reports suggest that the two teams could lock horns in an Asia Cup fixture. The 2022 edition of the Asia Cup which is all set to be played in Sri Lanka will be contested in the T20 format between August 27 to September 11.

As per reports, Sri Lanka are drawn up with Afghanistan and Bangladesh while the Qualifiers will commence on August 21. Meanwhile, the schedule of the 15th edition of the Asia Cup will be officially announced soon by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) but more importantly, SLC has got the green light to host the tournament despite economic and political unrest in the country for the last few months.

The Asia Cup 2022 will be played in the shortest format as a dress rehearsal for the T20 World Cup that is scheduled to be held down under in October-November. This will be the second time that the tournament will be played in the T20 format after 2016 which was won by India as they comprehensively defeated the hosts Bangladesh.

India eye vengeance after a bitter defeat in T20 World Cup 2021

The arch-rivals will be locking horns for the first time after their famous T20 World Cup 2021 group stage clash in Dubai on October 24 last year that saw Pakistan outclass India in all departments to register an emphatic 10-wicket win. The big win thus broke a 29-year World Cup jinx for the Men in Green over India.

The Men in Blue would now be hoping to stage a remarkable comeback with skipper Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid at the helm of affairs. While the in-form duo of captain Babar Azam and wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan will be a huge threat, the Indian top-order needs to be wary of left-arm pacer Shaheen Afridi with the new ball.

The last time these two teams met, Afridi sent back Rohit and KL Rahul cheaply in his first spell and it was courtesy of batting megastar Virat Kohli’s valiant half-century that India could cross 150.

Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Rashid Latif reckons that Pakistan is a better team than their rivals India. Although he thinks India is a good team, he said that Pakistan has some of the best players such as Shaheen Shah Afridi, Babar Azam, and Mohammad Rizwan. Speaking about the upcoming Asia Cup, he said that the main competition is between India and Pakistan.

Latif said that he was hopeful of Pakistan’s chances in Asia Cup, adding that their win against India in the 2021 T20 World Cup has increased the hopes. The 2022 Asia Cup is set to be held from late August to early September in Sri Lanka.

“India is no doubt a good team but there’s no example of the way Pakistan is currently playing cricket,” the former Pakistan cricketer was quoted as saying by the Cricket Pakistan website. “Pakistan has players like Shaheen Shah Afridi, Babar Azam, and Mohammad Rizwan who are currently named as the best players by ICC.”

I am hopeful for Pakistan to win Asia Cup 2022: Rashid Latif

When Pakistan and India met in the previous T20 World Cup in October 2021, the Men in Green clinched a thumping 10-wicket victory, chasing a target of 152 in 17.5 overs. Fast bowler Shaheen Afridi ripped through the Indian top-order, dismissing openers, KL Rahul for 3 and Rohit Sharma for a first-ball duck, in the first two overs of the spell.

“I am hopeful for Pakistan to win Asia Cup 2022. The victory against India in the recent T20 WorldCup 2021 has increased hopes for Pakistan. No doubt other teams are also competitive but the main competition in AsiaCup 2022 would be between India and Pakistan,” said Latif.

India and Pakistan have faced each other nine times in T20Is, out of which India have won seven times and Pakistan won the other two games. Pakistan, however, has an overall edge over their neighbours as they lead by 73-55 in ODI in 132 games and 12-9 in Test matches in 59 meetings. The two teams will meet in the upcoming T20 World Cup on October 23 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
