There are captains. There are leaders, and then there is Sourav Chandidas Ganguly. Back in 2000, Indian cricket was in dire straits. Following the match-fixing scandal and the subsequent ouster of folk heroes like Mohammad Azharuddin, Indian cricket needed someone who could restore the lost integrity as well as the faith of the fans in this cricket-loving country.

Enter Sourav Ganguly. Ganguly was a born leader. He was not only a great talent spotter but also someone who would go to the hilt for a youngster if he felt that the guy was match-winner. Ganguly’s sole motive was a create a fearless Team India; a team that would not only be unbeatable at home but also competitive in obscure territories.

And so began India’s transformation. Under his leadership, Ganguly introduced talents like Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Yuvraj Singh, Ashish Nehra, Mohammad Kaif and Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who not went on to became match-winners but also the torchbearers of Indian cricket in the 21st century.

Nineteen years later, and Indian fans are once again looking towards their crisis man, to clean up the mess that has plagued the richest cricket board in the world. Ever since the Indian Premier League spot-fixing scandal broke out, The Board of Control for Cricket in India has virtually been a dysfunctional unit. In recent years, the Board has found itself mired with several conflicts of interest controversy, amongst many other issues. With Sourav Ganguly becoming the head of the organization, fans are hugely optimistic that their crisis man will once again deliver.

So, on the appointment of the Ganguly as the BCCI head, many Indian fans hilariously trolled Indian Head Coach Ravi Shastri. For the uninitiated, Shastri and Ganguly have been at loggerheads ever since the latter claimed that he lost out on the coaching role due to the former Indian captain’s presence in the Cricket Advisory Committee back in 2016. Ganguly had reacted to Shastri’s claims back then, stating that the player-turned-commentator-turned-coach was living in a fool’s paradise.

Here’s how Twitter trolled Ravi Shastri on Sourav Ganguly’s appointment

Fake FB Wall: Suresh Raina ready to take No. 4 slot; Gautam Gambhir to be India’s opener in T20 World Cup 2020 https://www.crictracker.com/fake-fb-wall-suresh-raina-ready-to-take-no-4-slot-gautam-gambhir-ready-to-be-indias-opener-in-t20-world-cup-2020/ Sun, 29 Sep 2019 04:57:47 +0000 https://www.crictracker.com/?p=358646 Suresh Raina

The Indian Cricket Team’s no. 4 fiasco isn’t hidden from anyone of us. Ever since the conclusion of the Champions Trophy 2017, innumerable no. of batsmen have been tried at the position, however, not a single one of them has been able to cement his position. At this point of time, Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer are the lads who have been handed over the responsibility.

In the meantime, the Indian batsman Suresh Raina has also expressed his desire to make a re-entry on the no. 4 spot. The 32-year-old was once India’s ideal batsman of the position and has been quite successful as well. Although he is currently recovering from a knee injury and is out of favour, the Southpaw is expecting a comeback by the end of next month.

Raina feels that he can be back in action by this November and can hence solve the headache of the Indian selectors. In the 18 innings he has played at the coveted position, the left-handed batsman has scored 675 runs at an average of 45. He has also scored a total of 6 half-centuries and a ton. He made his last appearance in the Indian pullover in July 2018 against the English side. One of the main reasons behind Raina’s exclusion from India’s upcoming plans is his fitness and age which has become a cause of concern for him as well as the team.

Nevertheless, in a recent interview, Suresh Raina said that he would love to make a comeback in the Indian blues and is fit enough to play at the number 4 position. “I can be the No. 4 for India. I have batted in that slot before and delivered. I am looking forward to an opportunity with two T20 World Cups coming up,” the 32-year-old was quoted saying by The Hindu.

Raina gets trolled

Howbeit, this statement by Suresh Raina didn’t get a positive response. Many people felt that he was out of the scheme and the team management shouldn’t go back to him. Meanwhile, Raina also posted a Facebook status regarding this topic on his official handle. This resulted in many cricketers dreaming some of the most impossible things.

Here is the response to his fake Facebook status:

IPL 2019: Match 52 –KXIP vs KKR – Funniest Memes from the Match https://www.crictracker.com/ipl-2019-match-52-kxip-vs-kkr-funniest-memes-from-the-match/ Fri, 03 May 2019 18:21:25 +0000 https://www.crictracker.com/?p=338608 Sunil Narine

The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) were in dire straits after six consecutive defeats. Nevertheless, Dinesh Karthik & Co. made an incredible comeback with two victories in a row, their last victory coming against the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) by seven wickets in Mohali. Their triumph came with two overs to spare. For KXIP a lot of permutation and combination need to go in their favour for a playoffs berth.

Curran makes KKR pay

After losing the toss and being put in to bat first, Punjab made a rather sedate start, having scored 41 runs in the powerplay. Meanwhile, the hosts lost the wickets of both their openers- Chris Gayle and KL Rahul. Sandeep Warrier picked up the crucial scalps to give KKR the early advantage. Mayank Agarwal looked ominous with a knock of 36 runs from 26 deliveries after which he was unluckily run out.

Nicholas Pooran was in no mood to die wondering and he raced away to 48 off 27. Nitish Rana got rid of him. Mandeep Singh didn’t disappoint either with a 17-ball 25. However, the most impactful knock came off Sam Curran’s bat. When he was on 17, Rinku Singh dropped him and the English all-rounder went berserk to propel Punjab to 183 with a 24-ball 55. In the last over, he smacked Harry Gurney for as many as 22 runs.

Gill plays a delightful knock

The Knight Riders made a delightful start to their run-chase as Shubman Gill and Chris Lynn put on a stand of 62 runs in six overs. Lynn threw his bat at everything and got 46 runs off 22 balls with five fours and three sixes. Andrew Tye nipped out the Queenslander to give KXIP their first breakthrough. Robin Uthappa found the boundary a few times to score a 14-ball 22 after which Ravi Ashwin dismissed him.

At the other end, Gill showed sheer class and accomplished back-to-back fifties off 36 balls. Andre Russell rode his luck to a 14-ball 24 with two fours and as many sixes. Agarwal dropped him once at long off, but Mohammed Shami pinned him soon after. In the last five overs, Kolkata needed a mere 34 runs. Gill remained not out on 65 from 49. Dinesh Karthik played a cameo of 21 to see the Knights through to victory.
