Rajasthan Royals (RR) were finally able to construct a strong team for the Indian Premier League 2022 season with talented batters and an experienced bowling unit to cover most of the bases. They started the tournament on a strong note, but lost their way in the middle. Nonetheless, they found their form back in the latter half to seal the playoffs spot and emerged as runners-up.

It was the most successful season for the franchise after the 2008 season, with a lot of positives and a few negatives as well. There were some players the team management could not give enough chances to or their form was not satisfactory to keep them in the playing XI. This list covers three players who are likely to get omitted from the Royals squad ahead of IPL 2023.

3 Players RR will release ahead of IPL 2023

1. Jimmy Neesham

Jimmy Neesham

New Zealand all-rounder Jimmy Neesham has warmed the benches for the most part in his IPL career. After playing five matches in 2020 for Punjab, he came back in the subsequent edition to feature in three games for Mumbai Indians (MI). This year, RR trusted Neesham’s capabilities in the T20 format and availed his services.

With RR having five quality bowling options, they did not tinker with the winning combinations. The talented Kiwi player could feature in only two games of the season and garnered only 31 runs, with a low enough strike rate. In both these matches, he could not provide the much-needed flourish for the team in the final overs.

In the last few league matches and the playoffs of the tournament, RR trusted to play with three frontline pacers and two spinners. With Shimron Hetmyer and Riyan Parag already there as finishers, RR are likely to release Neesham ahead of next year’s auction.

2. Daryl Mitchell

Another proven performer for the Kiwi team, Daryl Mitchell was picked by RR for the IPL 2022. This was due to his impressive performances in the T20 World Cup 2021, wherein he provided good starts to the team. It was his debut season in the tournament after his impressive performances across all the formats.

In two appearances, Mitchell could only score 33 runs at a strike rate of 75. With such a low strike rate, he could not help the team’s cause by posting a strong score on the board and was ousted from the playing XI.

Ahead of the IPL 2022 finals, Mitchell left the RR camp to join the England Test team for the New Zealand series. It is most likely that the Royals might look beyond Mitchell for the next season. Although Rassie van der Dussen also could not do well, his performances in white-ball cricket for South Africa have been impressive. Hence, he is likely to retain his place.

3. Navdeep Saini

Navdeep Saini
Navdeep Saini. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI)

The emerging fast bowler Navdeep Saini has showcased his skills in both international cricket and the IPL. He was picked by the franchise for INR 2.6 crore, and was touted to be the key pacer for the 2022 season.

However, Saini could be a part of only two games in the 2022 season. In his first game, he finished with figures of 2/36 and took a breathtaking diving catch as well. The subsequent fixture saw him going for 36 runs in three overs and taking a single wicket.

After these performances, the 29-year-old pacer could not get a game under his belt in the most successful campaign for RR after 2008. At the end, the team already had enough quality pace-bowling options in the form of Prasidh Krishna, Trent Boult, and Obed McCoy. It is most likely that Royals will release him to free up their purse.

New franchise Gujarat Titans (GT) completed a fairytale story as they won the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) by defeating the inaugural season champions Rajasthan Royals (RR) convincingly by seven wickets in the mega final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Skipper Hardik Pandya was the star performer for his side in all the departments including his spot-on captaincy. He registered his best figures of 3/17 in the league and then scored 34 runs to win the title for GT in their very first season itself.

Talking about how the final encounter panned out, captain Sanju Samson won the toss and opted to bat first. Yashasvi Jaiswal again gave his side a quickfire start as he scored 22 off 16. Orange Cap holder Jos Buttler looked cautious and paced his innings slowly. Samson managed to score 14 while Devdutt Padikkal played a scratchy innings of two off 10 balls. Hardik took all the big wickets of Buttler, Samson, and Hetmyer as RR couldn’t find any momentum in their innings.

Buttler was the top-scorer for his side like he has been throughout the competition with his knock of 39 runs. The Royals finished with a total of 130/9 in 20 overs. Sai Kishore took two wickets while Mohammed Shami, Rashid Khan, and Yash Dayal all snared a scalp each. Chasing just 131 to win, Prasidh Krishna got rid of Wriddhiman Saha early for just five runs. Trent Boult dismissed Matthew Wade for eight runs and GT found themselves at 23/2.

But Shubman Gill kept going for his side with skipper Hardik also contributing in the chase. Yuzvendra Chahal took the latter’s wicket but it was too little too late for RR. With that wicket, Chahal won the Purple Cap award with 27 wickets in the competition. He also became the spinner with most scalps in an IPL season.

Meanwhile, David Miller and Gill both remained unbeaten on 32 and 45 runs respectively as GT sealed the deal in 18.1 overs. The impressive Titans side performed exceedingly well in the competition and the table-toppers deservingly lifted the trophy in their debut campaign. For his all-round performance, Hardik Pandya was named the Player of the Match.

Meanwhile, here are some of the important stats and numbers from the final between Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League 2022:

863 – Jos Buttler has now smashed the second-most runs (863) in an IPL season. Virat Kohli tops the chart with 973 runs in the 2016 edition.

374 – Buttler has now also scored the third-most runs in the powerplay in an IPL campaign. David Warner amassed 467 in 2016 while Adam Gilchrist 382 in the year 2009.

3 – Hardik became the third captain to win the POTM award in the final. Anil Kumble and Rohit Sharma won in 2009 and 2015 respectively.

3 – Buttler and Chahal won the Orange and Purple Caps respectively and it became the third instance of the highest run-getter and the leading wicket-taker ending up from the same team. GT vs RR: Devastated Jos Buttler throws helmet, gloves after getting dismissed in IPL 2022 final https://www.crictracker.com/gt-vs-rr-devastated-jos-buttler-throws-helmet-gloves-after-getting-dismissed-in-ipl-2022-final/ Sun, 29 May 2022 17:22:55 +0000 https://www.crictracker.com/?p=651730 Jos Buttler in angry

Jos Buttler has been in the form of his life in IPL 2022. He made his bat do the talking exceptionally well in Qualifier 1 and 2, scoring 89 and an unbeaten 60-ball 106 respectively. In fact, that match-winning century against RCB was also his fourth one this season. Buttler was oozing with confidence coming into the final clash against the Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and looked set for another big knock.

Even though the Englishman did read the wicket well and batted sensibly, he could not last for too long and walked back just when he was looking well-set, having scored 39 runs from 35 deliveries. His wicket opened up the floodgates for the Titans as they dried up the Royals’ scoring rate. Meanwhile, as Jos walked back to the dugout, he was upset with his dismissal and did not shy away from expressing it.

Jos Buttler expresses disappointment after his dismissal in the final

On the very first ball of the 12th over, the England limited-overs superstar looked to play a cut shot off GT skipper Hardik Pandya, but he failed to time it well as the ball took the outside edge and went straight into the gloves of Wriddhiman Saha who made absolutely no mistake behind the stumps.

Gujarat celebrated in delight as a gutted Jos Buttler took a long walk back to the dugout. The star opener was seen throwing his helmet and gloves in disgust near the Rajasthan Royals dugout and headed towards the dressing room.

Buttler might not have been able to convert his good start into an impactful knock in the grand finale, but he will finish as the Orange Cap winner of this season having amassed 863 runs from 17 matches. He surpassed David Warner’s tally of 848 runs in the 2016 season to register the second-highest individual runs in IPL history.

With 973 runs, batting megastar Virat Kohli is still at the top position as far as individual batting performances in a season is concerned.

‘Captain leading from front’ – Hardik Pandya’s stellar spell reduces RR to mediocre score in IPL 2022 final https://www.crictracker.com/captain-leading-from-front-hardik-pandyas-stellar-spell-reduces-rr-to-mediocre-score-in-ipl-2022-final/ Sun, 29 May 2022 16:51:30 +0000 https://www.crictracker.com/?p=651713 Hardik Pandya Strikes

Rajasthan Royals have ended with a relatively low score of 130 for the loss of nine wickets in the finals of the IPL 2022 edition at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. While the track was helpful for the bowlers, the Gujarat Titans used the short deliveries to their advantage and even Jos Buttler could not repeat his heroics. Skipper Hardik Pandya stepped up again and recorded figures of 3/17 in his four-over spell and changed the game on its head.

Earlier in the game, Rajasthan Royals opted to bat first after winning the toss and the move did not work as they lost the plot completely even after a good start to the innings. Yashasvi Jaiswal took the risk in the powerplay and scored some quick runs, including a sensational six off Mohammed Shami. However, the left-hander perished after a well made 16-ball 22 while Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson joined hands at the end of the fourth over.

Samson played two good shots and he followed Jaiswal soon for just an 11-ball 14. Buttler held the innings from one end and he always knew that he could make up with the kind of form he has been in. However, it wasn’t the same case with Devdutt Padikkal who got off the mark only in his eighth delivery. The pressure got to Padikkal (2) with some impressive bowling from Hardik Pandya and Rashid Khan. The left-hander eventually cut one straight into the hands of short third man which wasn’t a shorter delivery.

Rajasthan Royals collapse after a good start

Jos Buttler (39) who had to see the stuff from the other end nicked one off the bowling off Hardik to the wicketkeeper and suddenly, RR was reduced to 79 for 4 from 60 for 1. Shimron Hetmyer (11) and Ravichandran Ashwin (6) tried to up the scoring rate but provided relatively simple catches to the Gujarat Titans fielders. Trent Boult and Riyan Parag had not many deliveries to get their eye in and the former was dismissed after hitting a six.

Parag took the singles until the final overs while Obed McCoy had a free swing which did get him a six off Sai Kishore’s bowling. However, some brilliant death bowling meant that the Royals could not finish on a high and Parag was clean bowled in the final delivery of the innings with a stunning yorker from Mohammed Shami.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to Rajasthan Royal’s first innings

Cricket fans are engaged worldwide with the final of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 being underway. Gujarat Titans are up against Rajasthan Royals in the high-profile encounter and needless to mention, both sides are raring to cross the line. Meanwhile, Lockie Ferguson has bowled with venom in the contest as RR batters have struggled against his thunderbolts. In fact, the New Zealand speedster also recorded the fastest delivery of the season, clocking 157.3 kmph.

It was the last delivery of the fifth over and the dashing Jos Buttler was on strike. Ferguson unleashed a lethal yorker which foxed the Englishman. As a result, no runs were scored on the fastest delivery of the entire tournament. Notably, Ferguson went past Sunrisers Hyderabad speedster Umran Malik, who clocked a 157 kmph delivery during the group stage of the season.

Lockie Ferguson replaced Alzarri Joseph for the final clash

In fact, Umran bowled the fastest delivery in all matches he participated in. However, the quickest ball of the tournament is now against Ferguson’s name. Meanwhile, it must be noted that the New Zealand speedster came in as a replacement for Alzarri Joseph for this contest and the move has so far paid dividends.

Coming to the final clash, Rajasthan Royals won the toss and opted to bat at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The Men in Pink got off to a decent start with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler adding 31 runs for the opening wicket. However, once the former was dismissed for 22, the scoring rate went down significantly.

Skipper Sanju Samson played some delightful shots early on but was dismissed for 14. While Buttler showcased resilience early on, he fell prey to GT skipper Hardik Pandya after scoring 39 off 35 deliveries. The Titans have certainly made a remarkable start to the ultimate game and the Royals have some work to do. The lower-order batters and bowlers will have a massive job in hand. At the same time, the Titans must not be complacent in the crucial game.

Gujarat Titans are scheduled to play the Rajasthan Royals in the all-important final of IPL 2022 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The Hardik Pandya-led side will be confident after winning the Qualifier 1 against the same team and they topped the league stage as well. They are likely to stick to the same playing XI despite the bowlers going for a few in the previous game.

On the other hand, the Rajasthan Royals dominated the Royal Challengers Bangalore completely in Qualifier 2 to make the final of IPL 2022. The Sanju Samson-led side has one of the best bowling lineups and the in-form batter Jos Buttler has played a substantial role for the RR in their batting lineup in the last two games. However, they will know that it will not be easy against Gujarat Titans who have found ways to win in difficult situations.

There was a lot of assistance for the fast bowlers with the new ball while the extra bounce did the trick at times. The skipper that wins the toss will be expected to bowl first as they can pace the innings well and will have time to assess the conditions as well.

The final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be played between the new entrants Gujarat Titans (GT) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Narendra Modi Stadium on May 29 (Sunday). Both the teams will look to put their best effort to lift the cup and become champions of the current edition.

Both teams have performed exceptionally well in the tournament and would want to win the last match to be crowned champions. The new entrants have already beaten RR in Qualifier 1 of IPL 2022. However, the Royals from Rajasthan made a good comeback during the playoffs stage and reached the finals after defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

IPL 2022 Final: Will rain affect today’s important match?

According to Accuweather, it will be warm and clear on Sunday evening in Ahmedabad. The temperature is expected to be around 30 to 35 degrees. There was no dew in the second qualifier and will not be any in the final as well. As a result, the skipper winning the toss might want to chase in this match.

The pitch at the Narendra Modi Stadium was a little tricky for stroke-making as the ball was not coming on to the bat during Qualifier 2 of IPL 2022. The spinners are also expected to get some assistance from the wicket. It remains to be seen how both teams will implement their plans on the field.

As per the IPL guidelines, a Super Over will determine the result if there is no play possible within the regulation time. If the conditions don’t allow even the Super Over to take place, then the team that finished above at the end of the group stage (Gujarat Titans) will be crowned as the winner.

Meanwhile, for the final, the Super Over will need to start by 1.20 am. This means that the pitch and ground must be ready for play so that the Super Over can start at the latest by 1.20 am (final). However, it is very unlikely that rain will play a spoilsport in the IPL 2022 final match.

Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals will play the final of IPL 2022 on Sunday. Both these teams have been consistent throughout the tournament and finished in the top 2 of the group stages. While Gujarat Titans made their way to the final by beating Rajasthan in the Qualifier 1 and will now be playing in front of a large home crowd in this match. On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals after a depleting loss against this same opposition bounced back in a terrific fashion as they outclassed Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Qualifier and have earned a rematch against Gujarat Titans for the silverware. Both these teams have terrific bowling attacks and this promises to be a spectacular match to end the season.

Here are 3 players you can avoid in your fantasy teams for the GT vs RR game:

1. Riyan Parag

Riyan Parag has struggled with the bat throughout the season managing just 168 runs in 16 matches at an average of 16.8 and can be avoided for this match considering there a lot of better options available in the batting section.

2.Matthew Wade

He has been in and out of the team and is not opening the batting which has impacted his scores. In 9 matches so far he has scored 149 runs at an average of 16.5 and will face a stiff challenge against Rajasthan Royals bowling attack in this match. With better alternatives it is better to ignore him for this match.

3.R Sai Kishore

Sai Kishore has been economical but has managed only 4 wickets in 4 matches so far in this edition. As we saw in the previous match at this venue it does not aid spin bowling and hence it is better to avoid him for this match and look at other options.
