Bangladesh are set to travel to Zimbabwe for three T20Is and as many ODIs, starting on July 30 in Harare. The momentum is high with the Asian team as they enter this series after beating West Indies by 3-0 in the ODI series. Although they lost the Test and T20I series against the Caribbean side, their dominating display in the ODIs set them in the right direction. On the other hand, Zimbabwe have qualified for the upcoming 2022 T20 World Cup after beating Papua New Guinea in the qualifiers semi-final clash. They beat the Netherlands, another qualified side, in the finals of the qualifier on July 17.

Zimbabwe lost their previous bilateral series against Afghanistan last month. Zimbabwe lost all six matches (three T20Is and three ODIs) against Afghanistan at home. Hence, not many are backing them to trouble Bangladesh. The African team will be focusing to find some rhythm and momentum on this tour as they are scheduled to host India in a three-match ODI series at home later in August. They will then travel to Australia to play the same number of 50-over fixtures.

Bangladesh management made a big change to their T20I squad for this upcoming tour. Wicketkeeper-batter Nurul Hasan has been named as stand-in skipper in place of rested Mahmudullah, who is unlikely to regain the captaincy duties in the future. According to various reports, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is planning to appoint star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan as the next captain to lead the side in the shortest format of the game. The veteran opening batter Tamim Iqbal is leading the ODI squad for this tour as Shakib opted to rest.

Zimbabwe set to host Bangladesh and India before flying to Australia as jam packed schedule awaits https://www.crictracker.com/zimbabwe-set-to-host-bangladesh-and-india-before-flying-to-australia-as-jam-packed-schedule-awaits/ Wed, 20 Jul 2022 04:31:10 +0000 https://www.crictracker.com/?p=672626 Zimbabwe the Champions of 2022 ICC Men's T20 Worldcup Qualifier B.

Zimbabwe’s qualification in the T20 World Cup this year has brought forward a very busy schedule for the team in the upcoming two months. The Zimbabwe team is all set to host India and Bangladesh before flying off to Australia for the first time in 18 years.

India has not visited Zimbabwe since 2016, and the upcoming tour constitutes three ODIs which will be played in Harare on August 18, 20, and 22, respectively. The series is a component of the ICC ODI Super League, which identifies the seven direct qualifiers and the hosts for the 50-over World Cup in India scheduled in 2023.

With only three victories in 15 games, Zimbabwe is presently ranked 12th out of a total of 13 teams. The ODI series is scheduled to conclude less than a week before the 2022 Asia Cup, which will be held in the UAE from August 27 to September 11. Zimbabwe will have an opportunity to understand the Australian weather and pitches before the world cup when they tour the nation.

Zimbabwe and Australia are set to play three ODIs in Townsville between August 28 to September 3. They haven’t toured Australia since 2003–04, and the two countries’ most recent ODI matchup occurred in a tri-series in 2014, prior to the 2015 World Cup. From July 30 to August 2, Bangladesh will play Zimbabwe in three T20Is, followed by three ODIs on August 5, 7, and 10. Every game will be held in Harare. Following the series, Zimbabwe will host the Indian side.

Zimbabwe won the eight-team qualifying competition in Bulawayo earlier this week, securing their place at the 2022 T20 World Cup. Sikandar Raza returned 4 for 8 in the championship match as they defeated the Netherlands by 37 runs.

Australia have announced their squad for the upcoming ODI series against Zimbabwe and New Zealand. While pacer Pat Cummins has been rested, senior spinner Adam Zampa has been included in the squad for the white-ball matches.

The team management has also dropped several names who were a part of Australia’s tour of Sri Lanka. Mitchell Swepson, Josh Inglis, Jhye Richardson, Travis Head, and Matthew Kuhnemann, were left out of the squad. Ashton Agar, Marcus Stoinis, and Sean Abbot make their return to the set-up.

The series will provide an opportunity to play some great cricket: Chief selector George Bailey

“These series against New Zealand, the world’s No.1 ranked ODI side, and Zimbabwe will be good contests, providing an opportunity to play some great cricket in the lead-up to the home summer,” said George Bailey, the chair of selectors, on Monday (July 18) according to Cricbuzz. “The team is excited to be marking the start of a huge summer with these matches in North Queensland,” Bailey added,

Both series will be played in North Queensland with the home team facing Zimbabwe first in Townsville, before taking on their Trans-Tasman rivals in Cairns. While the ODI series against Zimbabwe will start on August 28, the first ODI match against New Zealand will take place on September 6. The Men in Yellow will want to play excellent cricket and win both series.

Team Australia recently completed their tour of Sri Lanka where they played some good quality cricket. The Men in Yellow completely outplayed Sri Lanka during the T20I series but had to face a defeat during the 50-over matches. After the white-ball matches, both teams took on each other during a two-match Test series that ended in a 1-1 draw.

ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022: Final Groups and Fixtures confirmed for the tournament https://www.crictracker.com/icc-mens-t20-world-cup-2022-final-groups-and-fixtures-confirmed-for-the-tournament/ Sun, 17 Jul 2022 17:29:16 +0000 https://www.crictracker.com/?p=671730 Zimbabwe the Champions of 2022 ICC Men's T20 Worldcup Qualifier B.

Zimbabwe has won the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier B defeating the Netherlands and securing the final spot in Group B in the First Round at Australia 2022 alongside Ireland, Scotland and West Indies. Australia will host the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup for the first time ever between 16 October and 13 November 2022 across seven host cities, with Geelong and Hobart playing host to the First Round.

Zimbabwe’s first match will take place on the second day of the Men’s T20 World Cup against fellow qualifier Ireland in Hobart on 17 October. The evening match will be played as part of a double-header, with West Indies taking on Scotland in the afternoon fixture.

Runner-up Netherlands will join Sri Lanka, Namibia and the United Arab Emirates in Group A, playing their first match on the opening day of the World Cup in Geelong against the United Arab Emirates. This will be an evening match following 2014 champions Sri Lanka facing Namibia in the T20 World Cup opener.

On a day of low-scoring encounters in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier B, hosts Zimbabwe secured a 37-run win over the Netherlands in the final despite being restricted to just 132 batting first. Sikandar Raza was the hero for the home side, taking four for eight from his four overs during a spell in which the Dutch lost six wickets for just 17 runs.

Logan van Beek (3/18) had earlier played an important role for the Netherlands, removing both skipper Craig Ervine and Raza as Zimbabwe slumped from 93 for three to 132 all out. In reply, the Dutch made a reasonable start, sitting at 45 for two before the wickets started tumbling, with Raza trapping Stephan Myburgh (22) leg before for his first wicket and arguably the most important of the match.

Zimbabwe captain Craig Ervine said: “It’s unbelievable. This is what we used to know Zimbabwe cricket to be like, all the supporters coming out and cheering for us. And over the past week, we’ve definitely given them something to cheer about. From the players’ point of view, it’s good to see the cheers and the happiness back in the crowd.

“We’ve just got to concentrate on what we have done over this week. The World Cup First Round is in October so there is plenty of time between now and then to have a chat and think about how we are going to go about that.”

Netherlands captain Scott Edwards said: “Both teams came out here to win and they were too good for us today. We got what we came here for in qualifying for the World Cup, it’s just a little bit disappointing that we couldn’t perform in the final. “Each group (at the World Cup) has got its challenges so we’ll prepare for Australia and the teams we are playing against and see how we go.”

Elsewhere on the final day of action in Zimbabwe, Papua New Guinea squeezed past the USA in the third-place play-off, Uganda edged out Hong Kong in the battle for fifth and Jersey came seventh thanks to a win over Singapore. Some brilliant bowling from Assad Vala (3/18) and Chad Soper (3/11) helped PNG defend a total of 97 against the USA, winning by five runs. Skipper Vala had made 15 with the bat and then played a crucial role with two wickets from his final over before Soper finished the job.

Uganda held on against Hong Kong for a four-run success, despite making just 102 for seven batting first. Cosmas Kyewuta (2/28) was the hero at the end, taking two wickets in the final over of Hong Kong’s reply. Jersey enjoyed a relatively straightforward chase in their six-wicket win over Singapore, Nick Greenwood (48) and Jonty Jenner (39no) helping them chase down 141 with time to spare.

ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 Local Organising Committee CEO, Michelle Enright said:

“Today is an exciting day for fans with all 16 teams now confirmed for the first ever ICC Men’s T20 World Cup being held in Australia. “We congratulate the Netherlands and Zimbabwe on making it through a challenging qualifying event and look forward to welcoming them to Hobart and Geelong respectively in the First Round.”

For Zimbabwe Cricket and their cricketers, even a small achievement is worth celebrating and they lately celebrated a memorable occasion when Zimbabwe successfully sealed a berth in this year’s ICC T20 World Cup Down Under. Zimbabwe along with the Netherlands have gone on to secure their places in the showpiece event in T20 cricket.

After officially qualifying for a place in the eighth edition of the T20 World Cup, a few players from Zimbabwe carried out the bat celebrations to express their happiness about their big accomplishment. Apart from tapping their bats in what seems to be a traditional African tribal celebration, all the players could also be heard giving out a roar of victory in the video posted by Zimbabwe Cricket on their official Twitter handle.

Watch the video here:

Groups for Zimbabwe and Netherlands yet to be decided

Both Zimbabwe and the Netherlands have successfully qualified for the finals of the T20 World Cup Qualifiers and now whoever wins the final will make it to Group B whereas the runners-up will go into Group A. Group B  comprises Ireland, Scotland and the two-time champions the West Indies while Group A consists of  Namibia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the 2014 winners Sri Lanka who will be playing the group stages for a second successive edition of the T20 World Cup.

Zimbabwe got the better of Papua New Guinea (PNG) by 27 runs in the semi-final to make the finals and also confirm their tickets to Australia for participating in the biggest event in global T20 cricket. The Dutch, on the other hand, decimated the United States of America in their semis fixture.

It is indeed a remarkable achievement for the Craig Ervine-led side who could not qualify for the previous edition of the T20 World Cup last year that was played in the UAE. Zimbabwe could also not make it to the 2019 World Cup that was played in England & Wales due to the International Cricket Council (ICC)‘s 10-team rule.

The Netherlands and Zimbabwe have qualified for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 after securing their places in Sunday’s Qualifier B Final in Zimbabwe.

The final line-up for the men’s event which started in April 2021 with 86 different teams vying for a spot to compete for the ultimate prize in T20 cricket, has now been confirmed with Netherlands and Zimbabwe joining hosts Australia, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, England, Ireland, India, Namibia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Scotland, South Africa, Sri Lanka, United Arab Emirates and West Indies.

The World Cup takes place in Australia for the first time ever between 16 October and 13 November 2022 across seven host cities, with Geelong and Hobart playing host to the First Round.

The final groupings for the Men’s T20 World Cup First Round will be determined through the outcome of Sunday’s final. The winner of Qualifier B will go into Group B with Ireland, Scotland and the West Indies. With the runner-up filling the final spot in Group A alongside Namibia, Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates.

Netherlands defeated USA in the first semi-final as Bas de Leede starred with bat and ball for the Netherlands with a comprehensive seven-wicket victory over the USA.

The all-rounder took two for 23 as the Dutch took wickets at regular intervals after the USA had elected to bat first. An opening partnership of 51 between Steven Taylor (26) and Monank Patel (32) had given them a great start, but from then on, wickets continued to tumble as they were bowled out for 138 with two balls to spare in their innings.

In reply, Stephan Myburgh fell for a duck in the first over, bringing De Leede to the crease. And he proceeded to hammer an unbeaten 91 from just 67 deliveries to orchestrate a straightforward chase, adding 53 with Max O’Dowd (16) and an unbroken stand of 77 with skipper Scott Edwards (26no) to seal the win and qualification.

Netherlands captain Scott Edwards said: “The first word that comes to mind is relief. I think we’ve got a great squad but these sorts of tournaments are always tricky to get through, especially when only two teams are going. But I couldn’t be happier for the group, we’ve had an awesome tournament so far and I’m looking forward to the final in a couple of days.

“Zimbabwe are obviously a very strong side, we’ve watched them throughout the tournament and they are playing some good cricket but so are we. I think it will be a good game and hopefully we can get one up on them.”

In the other semi-final Zimbabwe came out on top with victory over Papua New Guinea.

The game was in the balance for quite a while, but in the end, Zimbabwe’s batting swung it, PNG unable to chase down their target of 200 in a 27-run loss.

Regis Chakabva gave the hosts a good start after they chose to bat, with a quickfire 30 from 19 deliveries, with Craig Ervine (38) and Wesley Madhevere (42) continuing his good work.

Charles Amini (2/28) helped stem the tide but a 14-ball 29 from Milton Shumba took Zimbabwe to an imposing 199 for five from their 20 overs.

That was going to take some chasing and PNG’s cause was not helped by Lega Siaka being run out off the first ball of the reply.

They quickly found themselves in trouble at 33 for three, but Amini (33) and in-form Tony Ura (66) hit back impressively. Ura needed just 35 balls as he threatened to upset the home side but when Ervine bowled him, it effectively sealed victory.

PNG kept battling but a couple of wickets for Blessing Muzarabani (2/24) ensured they would not get close as Zimbabwe set up a final date with the Netherlands.

Zimbabwe captain Craig Ervine said: “I’m almost lost for words. It was a massive fight from the boys, it wasn’t an easy semi-final even though we had set 200. I’ve got to give credit to everybody for being up for the fight.

“I’m ecstatic for the country, I think this is huge for Zimbabwe cricket and the next step is going to be on Sunday, winning the Qualifier. Then we look forward to the World Cup in October.”

In the day’s other two matches Uganda got the better of Jersey by five runs while Hong Kong beat Singapore by seven wickets.

The first of those matches went down to the wire, with Uganda picking up some crucial late wickets to deny Jersey a second win in as many days.

Simon Ssesazi (30) and Ronak Patel (21) put on 46 for the first wicket as Uganda batted first but it took 26 from Juma Miyagi down the order to get them to a total of 110 all out from their 20 overs.

Benjamin Ward (3/16) was the pick of the bowlers for Jersey, who looked in total control at 75 for four in their chase.

But when the partnership between Ward and Jonty Jenner (27no) was broken by Dinesh Nakrani (2/20), the wickets started tumbling.

Jenner hung around but ran out of partners as Jersey finished up on 105 for nine.

The other match was a little more one-sided, Hong Kong comfortably chasing down Singapore’s total of 146. Yasim Murtaza (3/19) made inroads early on, and two wickets in four balls from Ehsan Khan (2/33) ended a 53-run partnership between Navin Param (33) and Janak Prakash (31), removing both men leg before.

In reply, Hong Kong skipper Nizakat Khan (81) provided the anchor innings which meant they were never in danger. Despite his dismissal with 13 still required, they cruised home with seven wickets and seven deliveries to spare.

The Indian team will be heading to Zimbabwe for a three-match ODI series next month. The three games, which will be part of the ICC One Day Super League, have been tentatively scheduled to be played from August 18 to 22.

Rohit Sharma‘s side are currently involved in a three-match T20I series against England, which will be followed by a three-match ODI series. The Men in Blue will travel to the Caribbean later this month for three ODIs and five T20Is.

Zimbabwe’s former head coach and current technical director, Lalchand Rajput spoke about the impact of India’s visit to the country, highlighting the influence it will have on the younger generation in the country to take up the game. He stated that the series is a big opportunity for the Zimbabwe players as they will be up against world-class Indian players.

“It’s a big opportunity for the players to play against the Indian players and for the cricketing fraternity in Zimbabwe. It will create a lot of interest amongst the younger generation to take up this game. Overall, the series is very good for Zimbabwe cricket,” said Rajput.

We are absolutely delighted to host India: Zimbabwe Cricket official

India are scheduled to land in Harare on 15th August. Notably, Harare is understood to be the venue for all three ODIs as of now. Meanwhile, it will be India’s first visit to the country in six years, as the hosts will battle against India for vital points for qualification for next year’s ODI World Cup.

“We are absolutely delighted to host India and we look forward to a competitive and memorable series,” a Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) official told Cricbuzz. India are likely to field a second-string squad for the series as they will have one eye on the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka, scheduled to commence on August 27.

Bangladesh are scheduled to tour Zimbabwe later in the month for three ODIs and as many T20Is. According to reports, the Asian team is expected to leave on July 22 for the tour. They will also play a warm-up One-day game on July 25, followed by the ODI matches on July 28, 30 and August 1.

The three T20Is will be played on  August 4, 6 and 8 respectively, and all matches will be hosted in Harare, reported Cricbuzz. Bangladesh are currently on the West Indies tour and will be playing the third T20I of the three-match series in Providence, Guyana, on July 7, Thursday. The subsequent three-match ODI series of the tour will commence on July 10 and end on July 16.

Meanwhile, the first T20I between West Indies and Bangladesh was washed out due to rain and ended without a result. It was initially reduced to a 13-over match and the visitors scored 105 for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted overs. All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan top-scored with 29 runs off 15 balls, coming in at number three. Wicketkeeper-batter Nurul Hasan also contributed, scoring 25 runs off 16 balls.

The pick of the West Indian bowlers was fast bowling all-rounder Romario Shepherd, who finished with bowling figures of three wickets for 21 runs in three overs. In the second T20I, Nicholas Pooran’s side batted first and amassed a total of 193 for the loss of five wickets. Opener Brandon King scored 57 runs off 43 balls, and Pooran scored 34 runs off 30 balls. Rovman Powell, coming in at number five, top-scored with an unbeaten 61 runs off 28 balls.

Bangladesh, in reply, faced an early setback, losing both their openers, Anamul Haque and Litton Das in the second over. Shakib top-scored once again for Bangladesh with an unbeaten 68 runs off 52 balls, and Afif Hossain complemented with 34 runs off 27 balls. However, Bangladesh fells short by 35 runs, as they finished with 158 runs for six wickets in 20 overs. With Windies leading the series 1-0, it is a must-win game for the visitors in the final T20I.
